UniSysCat member Prof. Dr. Peter Strasser, head of the Electrochemical Catalysis, Energy and Materials Science department at TU Berlin, has been awarded the Faraday Medal 2021 by the British Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).
Peter Strasser receives the award in recognition of his excellent contributions in the field of electrochemistry. His research focuses on basics and applications of electrochemical catalysis. Of particular interest to the group of Strasser is to study the electricity-based production of synthetic fuels and chemicals. These fuels could be the basis for clean and sustainable future energy storage and conversion. The Strasser group pays special attention to the fundamental understanding of bi-metallic electrocatalysis for low-temperature fuel cells, the fundamental catalytic processes for green hydrogen production in water electrolysers, and the electrochemical separation and conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air directly into synthetic hydrocarbons.
The Faraday Medal is awarded annually by the Electrochemistry Group of the RSC to an electrochemist working outside the UK and Ireland for outstanding original contributions and innovation in any field of electrochemistry. The award is designed to honour scientists in the middle of their independent scientific careers. The medal was first awarded in 1977 but in the early years it was not awarded every year.
