CatLab, the new catalysis research center in Berlin, was inaugurated on June 21, 2021, in the presence of top-ranking politicians, scientists and stakeholders. The research strategy of CatLab was introduced by Prof. Dr. Bernd Rech (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB)) and UniSysCat member Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl (Fritz Haber Institute Berlin (FHI)), followed by a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Maximilian Fleischer (Siemens Energy), Prof. Dr. Katharina Al-Shamery (HZB) and the three UniSysCat researchers Prof. Dr. Beatriz Roldan Cuenya (FHI), Prof. Dr. Karsten Reuter (FHI) and Prof. Dr. Roel van de Krol (HZB). The research of CatLab is aiming to investigate and develop hydrogen-based energy systems for the future. Hydrogen is a key component in the field of green, sustainable energy. For the sustainable production and use of hydrogen, new technologies need to be developed and tested - many of which are based on catalysis.

Thanks to the strong cooperation with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the Cluster of Excellence UniSysCat as well as an early-stage exchange with our industrial partners, CatLab will significantly contribute to a future sustainable energy system.", says Bernd Rech, the scientific director of HZB.
CatLab is a joint platform established by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), the Fritz Haber Institute (FHI) and the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC in Mühlheim). CatLab is supported by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) within the framework of the Nationale Wasserstoffstrategie.
