Previous BIG-NSE PhD scholar Dr Shuang Li receives DFG Grant

Start Time: Monday, December 7, 2020 05:13 pm

End Time:

Dr Shuang Li has been awarded a 238.800 EUR grant from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The two-year grant, part of the prestigious DFG program “Temporary Positions for Principal Investigators”, will support her project  "Organic-Polyoxometalate Co-Crystal-Derived Mesoporous Metal Carbides/Nitrides for Hydrogen Production from Seawater.”

The projects aims to  synthesize organic-Polyoxometalate (POM) co-crystals and organic-POM-silica composites as precursors for fabricating mesoporous Mo/W carbides/nitrides. The fabricated mesoporous Mo/W carbides/nitrides will then be applied as electrocatalysts for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) and seawater splitting.

Dr Li will carry out this project in Prof Arne Thomas’ group. She plans to build a complete carbon material preparation set up, an electrochemical catalytic performance research platform, and a seawater electrolysis device. She further plans to cooperate with multiple UniSysCat research groups and other groups in Germany and China.

Dr Li has already been thinking about this grant application when she was completing her PhD thesis as a BIG-NSE scholar in Prof Thomas’ group. After her defense on January 30, 2019, Dr Li continued her work in the same group as postdoc and prepared the DFG application which was granted in March 2020. During her PhD studies, she managed to publish no less than 15 publications (five as first author) in many high-profile journals. Since the beginning of her scientific career, Dr Li has published 50 papers which currently have been cited more than 4,600 times.

We wish Dr Li good luck and a lot of success with her DFG project in the coming two years!
