An interdisciplinary team including Prof. Dr. Peter Hegemann, UniSysCat group leader and Hertie Professor for Neuroscience at Humboldt-Universitaet zu Berlin where he is also Head of Experimental Biophysics receives EUR 10 million from the European Research Council (ERC) to develop light-controlled molecular switches.
The team around Prof. Dr. Gebhard Schertler, Head of the Division of Biology and Chemistry at Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, is set to substantially advance the revolutionary concept of optogenetics. The ERC Synergy Grant funded project ‘Switchable rhodOpsins in Life Sciences’ (SOL) aims to further develop bistable rhodopsins in order to study the effect G protein signalling and to use his knowledge for the development of gene-therapeutics against human diseases.
