From November 22nd -24th scientist from the University of Oxford met their UniSysCat colleagues at the Technical University Berlin (TUB) to plan joint projects in the field of (bio)catalysis. The meeting was organized by UniSysCat group leader Prof. Dr. Peter Neubauer, Head of Biochemical Engineering at the TUB and Vice Academic Director (STEM) of the Oxford Berlin Research Partnership within the Berlin University Alliance (BUA).

Starting with individual visits from the Oxford groups of UniSysCat-labs on the first day, the focus of day two was the discussion of potential funding options for future collaborations. On the third day the next steps, making use of initial funding from the BUA, were planned in more detail. The main fields of common interest that were identified, are

  • „Modelling across scales” - from experimental observations to system understanding: model-based design and control of experiments, reproducibility - FAIR data and knowledge;
  • “Gas converting metalloenzymes” and the
  • “Functional expression and scale up of enzyme production”.
