Since 2003, the LKRP has awarded the Tiburtius Prize for outstanding dissertations and master theses.

Every year the Tiburtius-Preis is awarded by the Landeskonferenz der Rektoren und Präsidenten der Berliner Hochschulen (LKRP) to doctoral students at Berlin universities for outstanding dissertations and to graduates for outstanding master's theses. Three prizes and an additional three recognition prizes go to doctoral students and three prizes to graduates. The prize is named after Professor Joachim Tiburtius, who was Senator for National Education in Berlin from 1951 to 1963.

This year, Dr. Anastasia Kraskov from the UniSysCat group of Prof. Peter Hildebrandt at TU Berlin receives the second Tiburtius-Preis 2022 for her outstanding dissertation. The award is associated with a financial support of 2.500 Euro.

Dr. Anastasia Kraskov obtained her PhD in the field of biophysical chemistry. Her PhD thesis focuses on bacterial phytochromes, a group of light-sensing proteins that are extremely abundant in nature. Using vibrational spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, Raman), combined with targeted amino acid substitutions, she studied the role of proton transfer in the photocycle, and also pioneered the use of vibrational Stark effect to assess electrostatic fields in phytochromes.

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 6 December 2022, 4-6 pm at Freie Universität Berlin, Arnimallee 22.
